Over the last few years, my dear friend Kristen has gone through more than her fair share of trials and tribulations. After countless years of struggling with intense migraines and an array of unexplained symptoms, she was finally diagnosed with Chiari Malformation a few years ago. Since then, she’s undergone 3 brain surgeries, each having their own side effects such as a brain infection & an allergic reaction due to the bovine patch used to replace part of her skull structure. She's also had a spinal surgery as it was found she had a tethered cord. This resulted in a lot of missed time from work, numerous follow up appointments and extensive treatments.
Kristen has also been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, POTS, degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and more recently with a CSF leak that is not controlled. The CSF leak is in desperate need of treatment and she's been referred to a top specialist at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, CA. This trip starts January 6, 2019 and is supposed to be for 1 week but she may be required to stay longer, pending the results. As she cannot go alone due to the testing and procedure the specialist plans to do, she needs help paying out of pocket for air fare, hotel & food. This treatment could be the game changer she needs.
To top things off, last summer, Kristen was able to purchase an adorable home for her family to start a great new life in. While this is typically one of the most exciting times of someone's life, that's not been the case over the last few months. Their home is literally sinking into the ground due to a foundation issue that has reared its ugly face seemingly out of nowhere. This is causing massive interior wall damage and will continue to cause more if this cannot be repaired before the spring thaw comes. There is also major separation of brick on the exterior of the home as well. The minimum estimate for repair is $17,600 + additional depending on how deep they have to dig and what reinforcements need to be put in. That only reinforces the foundation and does not cover the other damages to the home. Given the state of this home, she, her fiancé and 4 children living there are not safe. The project cannot be started without a minimum of 50% down payment.
At very minimum, Kristen is in need of $25,000 to help get her health and her home back on track. We understand fully that this is a tough time for a lot of families given the holiday season but every dollar helps at this point. If there is anything you can contribute to her, it will be more than greatly appreciated! We’re striving for a safe home for her and her family as well as proper medical for her. She’s the backbone of that family and they need her as well as a safe place to rest their heads.
