Last October, we lost Byron W. Skinner, a dear friend, son, brother, and uncle. Anybody who knows Byron, immediately associates him with baseball. From little league to Division 1 college baseball, he has always had a deep passion for the game, not to mention an incredible talent. Baseball is what he loved and what guided his life for the 23 years he was here with us. However, baseball wasn’t WHO he was. Byron had a passion for life and a huge heart. He was selfless and loved to help others.
To keep Byron’s passion for baseball alive and his passion for helping others alive, we have started a little league scholarship in honor of his memory. Little league is when B’s passion for baseball began, and we believe he would like to provide the opportunity for other kids to develop that passion as well.
As part of the Palatine Park Foundation, scholarship opportunities are made available to kids needing financial assistance. The Byron W. Skinner Scholarship will provide support to underprivileged kids who wish to play baseball, but may never get the opportunity to because they cannot afford it. It will help them pay for enrollment fees and equipment…everything they need to be able to play the game. Along with financial aid, each kid will receive information about Byron and his values, to serve as encouragement to keep their passion for the game alive, all honor of B’s love of the game and his love for others.
