As I share the heartrending account of my dear friend, Tabatha, I’m certain you will sense the seriousness of her diseases and the urgency of her need for financial assistance.
Tabatha has been haunted by pain every second of every day for the last seven years with no cure in sight.
On January 25, 2010, Tabatha had a stomach reduction surgery. When she awoke she was in horrific pain and had a fever. She also was unable to hold any food down. This was the day that changed her life forever. Her situation is chronic and acute.
It was determined that she had a hole in her stomach causing a septic leak for which the doctors would not claim responsibility. I am attaching a photo of her stomach which shows the hole and the damage which looks as if there had been a forest fire. She was hospitalized for a month!
After a year of going back and forth to the hospital, it was determined that her stomach had formed into a kink and had to be removed. A portion of her intestines were formed to make a stomach. She was unable to eat for months, and was fed through a feeding tube (with the cost of over $1,000 a day) that became infected and rotted deep into the tissues requiring another surgery!
This was just the beginning. In the last 5 years there have been more surgeries, more pain, outrageous pharmaceutical costs and discouragement. But, Tabatha and her husband, John and their two children, Kaylin (16) and Katryn (12) have struggled to be optimistic and exercise faith in Christ as they face these trials.
As a result of these and other surgeries the following occurred (this is a partial list) :
Her man made stomach struggles to digest food and poorly absorbs nutrition. One example is that she now lacks the ability to absorb iron. Anemia gets to the point every few months that 6 hour infusions are required. The results of that procedure has sent her to the hospital for several days.
- The pancreas was damaged during the first surgery creating chronic pancreatitis, causing horrific pain.
- The pituitary gland is now shutting down causing significant weight gain and other issues as well.
- She has implanted within her body a pain pump which is connected to her spine for the purpose of reducing the pain of digestion. The pain is not eliminated but is slightly reduced.
- An auto immune disease has developed. Her muscles are destroying themselves.
- Multiple ulcers
- Adrenal gland failure
- Doctor and lab appointments once or twice weekly.
There is so much more but suffice it to say, Tabatha suffers daily. She endeavors to perform with love her wifely and motherly duties. John works very long hard hours six days a week trying to provide for his family and pay the medical bills. They are drowning in debt to the point they stand to lose their home and struggle to put food on the table. Numerous calls come daily from medical creditors.
Throughout the day Tabatha repeats in her mind: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” The Crook family has a deep faith in Christ. They pray for divine assistance. Oft times such prayers are answered through the loving kindness of others.
Thank you for considering being an answer to their prayers. Anything you are able to give will be deeply appreciated.
Will you please pass this message along to your associates?
Will you please add the Crooks to your prayers?
I promise that every penny given to them will be considered sacred and only used to assist them in their difficulties.
Thank you very much,
Kris Horton
