Our Story

Will and I met through an introduction of mutual friends during our last year at Bethel Seminary. At that time, Will was pursuing his master’s degree in marriage and family therapy and wanted to be a Christian therapist. I was pursuing a master’s degree in divinity because I was being called to serve in vocational pastoral ministry.

Up until that point, I had attended seminary for six years and it had required a huge sacrifice of time and resources. During that period, I had witnessed so many other young women my age getting married and having children. I always longed to find the right person and start a family of my own. But I didn’t want to settle for just anyone. It was important that I find someone who also had a deep and active faith and who was supportive of the unique calling God had on my life. Someone who could make me laugh and not take himself so seriously was also a plus! Will was my unique match.

When Will and I started dating, we talked about marriage and starting a family. He shared that he always wanted to be a dad and was devastated that this never happened. He discovered in his first marriage that both he and his ex-wife strugged with infertility.  He was concerned that I might not want to be with him because it might be a struggle for us to have kids if we were to get married. Although I knew there would be challenges, I didn’t want to allow infertility to prevent us from being together and pursuing our dreams. And neither did Will.

Right after Will and I got married, we began trying for a child. We tried everything to conceive naturally. We changed our diets, avoided processed foods and sugars, and took lots of fertility supplements and vitamins.

Then we went to see our doctor early on to see where both us stood and to begin treatment. We discovered that Will's sperm count was severely decreased and its motility was poor. The urologist also found a varicocele (varicose vein) in one of his testicles, which could have been contributing to his low sperm count. The doctor recommended surgery to have it removed. After Will underwent surgery, his sperm count had improved slightly, but his motility and morphology was still very low.

Months later, our doctor suggested that we begin a round of Intrauterine insemination (IUI) and Clomid. The IUI was unsuccessful.

After much prayer and several years of trying everything we could, with our doctor we began to realize that In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) would be our only option if we wanted to conceive a child that would be biologically ours.

Our Need

Up until this point in our journey, the IUI and initial infertility tests were covered by our health insurance. But to proceed with IVF, we would need to pay for all of it out of our own pocket.

Financially, it’s extremely difficult for us to afford the total costs of one round of IVF, which costs about $14,000. This does not include the cost of medication, which can cost $1500-$3000. Thankfully, our insurance does cover this cost.

Saving a significant amount of money to cover the costs of IVF has been extremely difficult.  We both thought that we’d be in a better financial position four years ago than we are now. But both of us started new careers in our life at the same time, and finances are tight.

We wish that we could wait longer to save more money, but we can't. I am getting older. I am now 37 and as a woman, I can’t wait much longer to biologically have a healthy child. The longer I wait, the more difficult it will be for me to conceive even with medical assistance.

It’s been so heartbreaking for both of us to come to this point in our lives and realize that the biological difficulties, financial resources, and, most of all, the lack of time, are standing in our way of the having the opportunity to become parents.

How You Can Help

It's with humble hearts that we're asking for your help. Your financial gift would give us the opportunity to be able to start our family and make both of our dreams of becoming parents come true.

We are contributing the majority of the finances to cover the cost of IVF, but we are also inviting you -- friends and family -- to help us in any way that you can.

Your donation will help us cover the costs of IVF,  which includes: monitoring office visits, ultrasounds, blood work, egg retrieval procedure, laboratory culture, and anethesia for egg retrieval, embryo transfer procedure, and other services not included in the cycle.

We want to thank you for all of your generosity, support, and especially your prayers during this difficult season!

Please feel free to forward this on friends and family members that you think would want to help. You can send them an email with this link: https://www.gofundme.com/wv2az8t8
