ANGELS FOR ANGELA

Dear Family & Friends,

As many know, our sister Angela is in the fight of her life.  On March 17th, we found her in her home alone and unconscious.  She was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and it was septic; the infection was throughout her entire body – blood, brain, heart & organs. She also suffered a severe and debilitating stroke, affecting the entire right side of her body, from her neck, arms and legs, to her speech and hearing, and now even swallowing.  While in ICU, she has developed severe pneumonia, a weakened heart and kidney problems. It’s only been a few weeks but it seems like a lifetime when you look at all she has been through.  She is very sad and afraid right now.  Every day has been painful and her situation is truly devastating yet despite it all, she is not giving up.  Her first words to us after finding out what happened were,‘One day at a time’.   We’ve deemed it her mantra!

Angela, 57, has never had an easy life.  She is in constant pain due to her juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, resulting in knee replacement and double hip replacement surgeries. Yet despite the pain, she never complains and her attitude has always remained positive.  The doctors have told us that she must have been in immense pain the days before being rushed to the hospital yet, no one knew - she hadn’t complained once!  Despite everything she endures, she’s so grateful, always happy and always smiling.   Angela does not need to possess material things; her family and friends are all she needs.   She simply wants to be around those she loves and would do anything for them.   It is true that those who have less give more; helping and giving to others is what she lives for. Whether it is her family, nieces, nephews, friends or neighbors, she is the first one to offer to help, no hesitation and no questions asked!   Even while in ICU, Angela was concerned for her family that was staying with her. She communicated that we could use her car and was also worried that we would be inconvenienced because of her.   She was even upset that she hadn’t finished buying Easter gifts for the family.  Selfless in every sense!  Angela is also known for her love for children. While she doesn’t have any of her own, if you know her and have kids, there’s a good possibility she’s taken care of them, treating them as her own.  She also loves to help with children’s charities, volunteering several times a year for ‘Kids Kicking Cancer’, among other charities.  She does all of this for no reason other than her love for children.

Angela has a long and difficult road ahead of her and while her life will never be the same, we want to do everything we can to help her maintain as much independence as possible.   With her positive attitude and the help of all those that love her, we know she will pull through this.  But, she will require care for the rest of her life.  Stroke aftercare is one of the most expensive there is.  If she has any chance to stay at her condo, it will require major revisions. We must also find and hire a full time, live-in, certified companion to stay with her. She will need special equipment, such as a hospital bed, shower aid, shower wheelchair, bed lift, therapy equipment, handicap vehicle, and more. She will need to pay for various therapies for many months to come, as only some will be covered by insurance.    She will need a tremendous amount of medical, nursing and therapeutic support to attain a quality of life that so many of us take for granted.

Angela does so much for so many and has never asked for anything in return, but now we are asking on her behalf.  To help with the costs, we have started Angela’s Angels GoFundMe.  I hope that whoever reads this will want to help her.  It just doesn’t seem fair that something so bad could happen to someone so good.  We would really appreciate your support by making a donation and then sharing it with your network.   Angela lives on very limited social security and will not be able to obtain any of this without monetary help - without our help!  Let’s help her like she has always helped us.

Angela is blessed to have so many people that love her and on behalf of her, our family sincerely thanks everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all your prayers and concern, for our sweet, deserving sister Angela.  Please let us know if you have any questions and we’ll be happy to answer them. We will continue to keep everyone updated.
