Meet Shiitake.
She is one of five puppies (all named for mushrooms) who were transferred to Animal Friends from a West Virginia shelter that was simply out of resources … and the puppies were out of time.
Soon after arriving – one by one – these little pups began exhibiting symptoms of the lethal parvovirus (…despite receiving vaccinations against it!).
Our Medical and Animal Care teams jumped into action, working non-stop – 24/7 – trying to save these sweet souls. Because the virus was ravaging their little bodies, we then sent them along for high-level emergency care at the local specialty vet hospital.
We were not going to give up on them.
Tragically, despite all efforts, two of the puppies – Button and Cremini – simply couldn’t fight off the virus.
But the other three – Shitake, Portobello and Morel – are hanging in there, but still fighting.
And, we are fighting right along with them.
We have incurred bills in the amount of $34,986 for their specialty care and we aren’t done yet.
Please, donate what you can and continue this lifesaving fight. They are certainly worth it.
You can be confident in donating to Animal Friends. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit with a consecutive 10-year, four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
