Our dream is becoming a reality and we can't believe it! We have just submitted our 1023 forms to be approved for nonprofit status and we are currently looking for a property suitable for a farm sanctuary in CT. We are so excited for the journey ahead, but we can not do it alone. Every donation made towards Ellie Mae Farm Sanctuary will go directly to the animals to ensure they live out the rest of their lives in sanctuary. Every dollar will contribute to a better life for these incredible animals. Thank you so much for all of the support shown so far. We can't wait to rescue more animals and to eventually open our doors for you all to come meet the residents of EMFS!

Your donations will go towards:
- future rescues - feeding the animals
- providing medical care
- building new fencing/shelters
- and so much more!

Below is the story of Ellie Mae, my big beautiful girl - the reason Ellie Mae Farm Sanctuary exists!

September 20, 2016 - my life changed forever. That was the day that I met Ellie Mae. I was a junior at the University of Connecticut and had to choose a farm animal to train for the next few months for my intro to animal science class. Ellie Mae (or H864D at the time) and I became extremely attached over those few months and a couple of weeks before "show time" I found out that Ellie Mae was put on the auction list. She was the only hereford heifer put on the list and it was all by chance, I knew that I had to try and save her. My dad agreed to let me try to buy her at auction, since he has a small farm in CT, so I did as much research as possible before the big day. The day of auction ended up being one of the worst days of my life - within 60 seconds of Ellie being brought out on the floor we lost her - other farmers were bidding too high. Luckily we were able to get some information from the farmer that bought her and he said I could come visit her whenever I wanted to.

Fast forward two years - I have been visiting Ellie Mae almost every week since then. After I graduated from UConn I knew that I was meant to start a farm sanctuary, but I didn't know where to start. I began interning at a farm sanctuary in NY to gain as much experience and knowledge of the day to day life of operating a sanctuary. While there I got the message that Ellie had her beautiful calf, Zee. I wasn't there for either of them and that broke my heart. Luckily my boyfriend, Billy, was able to drive over to them so that we could check on them. They were both happy and healthy and I was so relieved but at the same time I knew that I needed to figure out a plan to get them to stay together with me for the rest of their lives. I’ve seen both of them grow and turn into beautiful and smart young girls with huge personalities. More recently I’ve talked with the farmer who has both of them. He has finally agreed to let me have my babies - we couldn’t be more excited!

They are the reason for this dream of ours - we just want to ensure that they are forever happy and healthy. Once we find a property and bring the two of them home we will begin rescuing more animals who deserve a chance like Ellie and Zee.  None of this is possible without your support - thank you for taking the time to read our story and a big thank you for donating. We can't wait to welcome you all into Ellie Mae Farm Sanctuary.
