Help Lt. Dan Walk Again
Donation protected
On the night of November 6th, Lt. Dan attempted to jump off of the couch after watching a movie with his family. He unfortunately got caught in a blanket and fell at an odd angle. He immediately showed signs of being unable to feel anything in his hind quarters and was rushed to Gulf Coast Animal Hospital. The doctors confirmed that he had severe swelling in his lower spine and retained no feeling in his back legs. We were told that in cases like this, Dan had little to no chance at a normal pain free life without immediate surgery. Even with surgery, dogs who have lost feeling in their hind quarters stand a 40-60% chance of a full recovery. After being monitored overnight, Dan was given an MRI where the doctors were able to confirm that he had herniated a disc in his lower back and that surgery would remain his best path forward. He was immediately rushed into an operation and will be kept at the hospital for the next few days. Once he returns home, Dan will need constant supervision and can take up to a month to see any results.
Lt. Dan (believe me we understand the irony of that name) is an energetic and loving 4 year old dog. His favorite activities in life include frolicking on hiking trails, playing a mean game of tug of war, and unsuccessfully chasing squirrels. Please help Dan get back to his normal happy self.

The surgery went well, they removed a lot of calcified herniated disc from his spine but the doctors are optimistic about his recovery. He’s going to remain at the hospital for the next few days to be monitored and receive physical therapy to hopefully get feeling/movement back into his legs. Thank you so much to everyone who’s helped! I’ll be sure to keep this page updated.
