My name is Debi. My youngest son Cory, at the age of 44 had a heart attack late evening of January 22nd, while at work in Council Bluffs, IA. He was misdiagnosed 4 times in two weeks as having an anxiety disorder. In reality, he was having a light heart attack. A total of 7 light heart attacks before the 8th one was identified as a full-blown heart attack. The CABG (name of surgery) was performed on Friday, January 26th. The seven-hour surgery ended up as a quadruple bypass. The first 48 hours were critical. He was heavily sedated, with tubes, and monitors everywhere. With the grace of God, he made it through. He was released this evening, Tuesday, January 30th. He will be disabled for at least 6 months and we don't know if he will be able to go back to his professions as a Caregiver & barber anyway soon. Physical therapy has been scheduled twice a week, starting next Tuesday. We are struggling financially with him not having insurance. The cost of his medical bills, therapy, and prescriptions are ridiculously high. He will need care for the next 3 months at least. His daughter and I will do the best we can with our work schedule, but he will need financial support and prayers to get through all of this.
Any financial support received will be of assistance in paying his hospital bills, physical therapy sessions, transportation, prescriptions, and any type of medical equipment needed for our home.
We thank you in advance for whatever support you can give. Even though the goal is high any financial support is accepted. Cory's $Cashapp ID: $OuttaTownBrown
Update 01/27/2024: Cory is sitting up in his recliner and talking. They have removed some of the tubes His pain level is at a 7 & his vital signs are good.
Update 01/28/2024: Today is a quiet day for Cory. He had his 1st physical therapy which tired him out. They took more tubes & wires out of his chest today. His vitals are good. He is allowing me to feed him slowly. He won't let me leave him, so we are watching the game.
Update 01/30/2024: They have released Cory from the hospital. We are home now. He is still really weak, but his vitals were good enough for him to heal at home with physical therapy and a strict diet. He still has a long road ahead and will need all prayers and help.
Update 02/01/2024: Cory took his first challenge with going up 12 steps to take a shower. Of course he had help to come down stairs and it took 3 of us to get him settled in bed for the night. He is quite aware of the daily challengings and knows there will be good days and bad ones. Actually the challenge is hour-by-hour. Please, please continue to pray with us for his recovery.
Update 02/10/2024: We continue to ask all for prayers. This week was his first appointment with his Heart doctor and his Cardio Therapy in the same day. Mornings are rough for Cory, but with the Grace of God we are doing the best we can. Cory stresses about his recover time, being able to pay bills ,and working. I've remained him how serious this surgery was and the time allotted to heal. We have a long road ahead of us! https://gofund.me/bdbdaa72
Update 022124: Cory is making good progress in his recovery. He has advanced to 3 days a week for his Cardio therapy. He is able to climb our stairs by himself. He still have his good days and bad, Of course, he is still healing. We thank every one of you that has helped him/us with your advice, contributions, prayers, and Words of Encouragement through these challenging times. We are still waiting on approval with CHI Financial Assistance for his medical bills. His PCP has updated his relief paperwork to return back to work on Wednesday, July 24th, if all goes well. We attempt to get him temporary disability, but he has to be disable for a least a year. One of Cory's challenge is managing his mental state. He stresses a lot, which isn’t healthy. Just taking care of him can be a little stressful. But I try my best not to let him see my worries and tears. His medical bills and prescriptions are high. A thoughtful friend of mines has blessed him with the Ensure protein drinks, which he needs to consume at least 80g a day. Please continue to keep him in prayer . . . and me too. Each good day is definitely a blessing! Each bad day is a challenging to overcome. Thank you, thank you. The GoFundMe link. https://gofund.me/bdbdaa72
