Kasey Lee Smith is many things to many people. He is a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend, a firefighter, an all-around hero to those who know him. Kasey is currently in a life battle that few others will face…he desperately needs a heart transplant. He and his family are in need your support.
I met Kasey many years ago. He shared a house with my son while they were in college. Kasey is a fun, honest and caring person, the kind of friend you pray for your kids to meet. During school Kasey fell in love with his sweetheart. They married a short time later and began their lives in a very normal, small town way. Kasey realized he had a want to give something more to his community and became a firefighter. Soon after, he became something even more special, a father!
A few years before some of this took place, Kasey fought another battle. It was against cancer. With prayers, the support of his family and friends, a strong determination and good doctors, Kasey won that battle. Unfortunately, the very medicine that was used to once save him would have a very detrimental side effect…it has destroyed his heart’s ability to function.
In July, Kasey’s health was failing rapidly. He was transferred from #KUMed to #UNMC at Omaha, NE. A balloon pump was installed to help his failed heart strengthen him enough so that he could be scheduled for additional surgery. Kasey did gain strength and on 7-25, an LVAD (mechanical heart pump) was installed as his "replacement heart" until he is blessed with a donor heart.
Kasey and his family is in need of your help. They are many miles from home and many miles from the end of this fight. There are three ways in which you can help
