In July of this year, three young beekeepers from Ontario and Nova Scotia will be traveling to Belfast, Northern Ireland to represent Canada at the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers (IMYB). They, along with participants from up to 40 other countries will test their beekeeping skills and knowledge and learn about beekeeping in other countries. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these youth to represent their country at an international event.
The IMYB started in 2010 in the Czech Republic and has become the largest international meeting for young beekeepers worldwide. The competition consists of practical as well as academic disciplines and it tests the knowledge and skills of young participants. However, the goal of the meetings is not just the competition itself, but also to motivate young beekeepers, promote the idea of beekeeping among them and provide them with social and cultural experiences.
The members of Team Canada include three young beekeepers: Bridget, from Nova Scotia, and Madeline and Charles from Ontario. The three participants will be traveling with two chaperones. The estimated cost for this trip, including the team registration fee and travel, is approximately $12,000.
All funds will be used to support the team (registration fees, and any/all travel costs for 3 team members and 2 chaperones)
