NICU RN needs your help!
Please allow me to introduce my friend, Michelle, to you. She is a bubbly 30 year old Neonatal nurse and mom of two children, ages 1 and 2 years. She is married and had just bought a house. She was hoping to build the life she and her husband, June, wanted for their family. The stage 3 cancer diagnosis she received this year came from nowhere. She had no family history and minimal indications that she had cancer trying to take over her life.
Cancer is hard at any age. Being a young woman with a family to raise has unique challenges. Michelle cannot work while receiving treatment for her illness. Her treatment plan includes chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. She is now facing 6 months of continued chemo for the last phase of her treatment. The type of cancer she has can be sneaky and hide without thorough and long term follow up chemotherapy. The babies that she loves to work with in the intensive care unit could interfere with her healing. We miss her at work.
There are so many bills associated with treatment for this diagnosis. Since she has to buy insurance outside of the work plan, her monthly insurance premium is slightly over $1,000. She also has to pay for her mortgage, medications, medical supplies, and other everyday life expenses. She needs all the help she can get. Her treatment will last until August 2016, then she will be returning to her beloved NICU babies. She will only be able to work part time until her strength returns.
I know this path. I followed the same course in 2010. I am her friend and confidant during her cancer journey. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Money should not play a role in this hardship. Please help as much as you can. She will recover and get stronger. It will just take several months for her to get her full strength back.
