Megan's Medical Fund

Megan Aldridge of Ocracoke Island, NC has recently been diagnosed with non-small cell adenocarcinoma lung cancer. This is a shock because Megan is 48 years young, has never smoked, has always had a focus on a healthy lifestyle and has practiced a serious committment to fitness.
        Megan has made her home on Ocracoke since coming to the island in 1995 as a deaf educator. Since then, she’s worked at a wide variety of jobs, including ASL interpreter & desk manager at The Castle, Ocracoke Harbor Inn & Blackbeard’s Lodge. Megan’s kind-hearted & joyful approach to life is contagious & apparent to all who meet her. Her community involvement & willingness to lend a helping hand are well-known.
        Thorough testing at Duke Cancer Center has determined that Megan is a candidate for targeted therapy. This means that a new medicine, Alectinib, will target the cancerous cells in her lungs.  She is fortunate to have insurance which will help cover a portion of this very expensive treatment & the expert care at Duke Cancer Center.
      Many people have asked how they can help with the added expenses of travel, co-pays & loss of income for the next year. This GoFundMe is a response to those requests. With her independent spirit, Megan was reluctant to accept this GoFundMe.  However, she is beginning to understand that it is appropriate to accept the generosity of folks who wish to help her in this time of need. She is deeply grateful for the outpouring of kindness that she is experiencing.
