West Side Story fundraiser
Help West Side Story purchase a phone video stabilizer, 360 camera, microphone, VR headset and DSLR camera to help our videographers, photographers and reporters create modern stories for our school and stay competitive on the national level!
West Side Story is the student news source of Iowa City West High School, with over 60 students on our award-winning print, web and broadcast publications and over 60 student journalists-in-training in our pre-requisite class Foundations of Journalism. We would like to provide an even greater array of features for our readers to enjoy and to help us stay competitive and modern. Through your help, we hope to be able to buy new technology which we’ll use to provide higher quality photos, collect better statistics, reach a wider audience, and expand our newspaper to new heights.
Here's what we're hoping to purchase for our 120+ journalism students:
-Gimbal Stabilizers for Mobile Phones: Students almost always have their phones on them, so having a way to utilitze them and record steady, professional b-roll footage would be a large step for us.
$150-200
-Microphones: Nobody wants to listen to a video with terrible background sound. With easy access to microphones, we could change this.
$40-50
-VR Headset: It's imperative for journalists to understand new trends so we can best figure out how to incorporate these trends when storytelling.
$50+
-360 Camera: It's imperative for journalists to understand new trends so we can best figure out how to incorporate these trends when storytelling. $100+
-Lenses: Lenses are essential for good quality photos and videos. At this point in time, we have very limited access to lenses that would provide our viewers with the quality content they want to see.

-Lights: In a school made almost entirely of cement blocks, good lighting isn't something we come across too often. Portable lights would allow for improved visuals in our photos and videos.

At a school where excellence is a tradition, we at West Side Story would be extremely grateful to all of you who make our newspaper even more excellent than before.
