San Fran theft... passport/visa

Donation protected
Hello friends,

As some of you know, I was recently in California for a conference to present parts of my research for my capstone. During that time, our rental car got broken into, and our backpacks were stolen. In my backpack, I had my passport/visa/laptop (all of my research is gone...). The passport and VISA is the most important form of documentation that I have when I am in the USA. It made me freak out because I had plans for what I am going to do after graduating in May, plans that most likely won't be able to happen as I wanted them to because of this. Without these things, I am unable to get a job to get my license as a CMPC (certified mental performance consultant) which is the goal of all of my education and studies these years. I also cannot travel outside the USA and fill out the tax forms in the spring ;)

There was a lot of freaking out going on at first, and not knowing what to do. However I have now come up with a plan.

To be able to renew my passport, I have to travel to New York and pay an expensive fee to get a new passport ($400). I have already booked a meeting and will go there in January.

To renew my VISA, I have to travel outside the country (Toronto, being the closest, $600). I will do this sometime in February when I have my new passport. I would have to stay in Canada for at least a week, if not more, to get the new VISA.

I also just found out that my insurance won't cover any of the things that got stolen... Which means I won't get any money back to help me recover my things. I have, therefore, also included my laptop in this GoFundMe. Something essential for me to have as a graduate student ($1000).

At this moment in my life, I am unable to pay all of this on my own... I am, therefore, reaching out to you all in the hopes of getting some help. I am going to be completely honest, writing this and asking for money is hard, and I feel embarrassed. However, it is something that I feel is my only option considering the circumstances.

Sincerely,

Frida
