Hope For Hudson

This is Hudson Jeffries

Beloved by all, Hudson Jeffries is 11 years old and simply loves life—and he’s in the biggest fight imaginable to get right back to doing just that.

Hudson is an avid outdoorsman, talented athlete, trusting best friend, caring big brother, and down for just about any adventure. He has a unique energy that’s palpable. He never fails to get laughs across the room with his witty humor. Everything about Hudson matters, but what really stands out is his kindness. His soul is kind and he makes sure you feel it. He is truly one of a kind.

His parents (Rachel & Jimmy) and brothers (Jack & Nolan) feel so lucky to have Hudson and all the joy and goodness he brings to them and so many others.

Hudson’s Story

In November of 2017, Hudson endured a four-hour-long procedure to remove a grapefruit-sized tumor perched on top of his right kidney. The surgeons were able to successfully maneuver around his vital organs and remove the cancerous mass. In due time, Hudson had recovered from the operation with an impressive battle wound he would proudly show off to his school buddies—joking often that it was from a shark attack.

After three long years of frequent scans, checkups and fears of the cancer returning, our family could finally take a deep breath: On December 29, 2020, Hudson was declared cancer free. He had beaten neuroblastoma, an extremely rare cancer only 800 children are painfully diagnosed with each year.

As Hudson walked out of the hospital that day, the nurses and doctors who just adored Hudson urged him to take a victory lap and boastfully ring that renowned cancer bell. You'd think a 10-year-old boy would relish the opportunity to show off his homerun swing, right? Well, not Hudson. He simply tapped the bell as lightly as he could. When asked why he didn't hit the bell like he would sometimes hit his own brothers (out of love of course!), Hudson maturely stated, “I didn't want all the other kids to hear and be sad that it's not them." That's who Hudson James Jeffries is. A selfless, kind-hearted young man destined to make an impact in this world.

Hudson’s Journey Ahead

On March 12, 2022, we learned the neuroblastoma had returned. This time, with a vengeance. As the week unraveled, the scans and tests demonstrated not only that the tumor was back, but that treatment this time would require far more than a single surgery.

How could this have happened? How did it progress so quickly? Why were there no visible symptoms? How did doctors miss it? Why does this have to happen to such a precious young man? We may never know the answer to those questions. So many others face similar battles with cancer.

However, we do know one thing: This neuroblastoma is going to regret coming back. Each of us will bet on that kid any day of the week. Hudson is already bravely declaring to all his friends and family that this time he’s going to HUMILIATE CANCER!

Why Hudson Needs Our Help

After having a port surgically added to his chest, Hudson began his first round of chemotherapy on Monday, March 21st. The medical professionals expect he will need five rounds of chemo over the next 12 months as a starting point to help assess how his body and the cancer will react. The good news is, Hudson’s good health, strong heart, and relentless spirit bode well for the fight—a fight his doctors believe he can win.

Clearly, the psychological, physical, and emotional blow to his family is daunting to endure. Throwing the financial hurdles on top of those things is unimaginable.

We are hoping to raise enough funds to help Rachel and Jimmy cover the out-of-pocket medical, necessary travel, and other unexpected expenses that come with Hudson’s treatment. We hope to do everything we possibly can to reduce the heavy financial burden on their shoulders and enable them to focus on their family and care for Hudson.

Hudson Thanks You

Over the past week, we have been blown away by the love, support, and generosity of our friends, family, and community. We want to thank each and every one of you for your kindness and love. We have a long journey ahead of us, but see the light at the end of the tunnel in every kind gesture and expression of support. We see a future of Hudson riding his bike with friends, showing off even more wicked scars, and filling our hearts with laughter and joy. And when he HUMILIATES cancer this time, his kind soul will no doubt be focused on paying forward to others who will need inspiration and support as they face similar battles against the perniciousness of cancer.

Hope for Hudson.
