More information about Preterm births. Around 90,000 babies are born sick or premature every year in the UK. Preterm birth is the leading cause of death in children under five years old. Complications such as difficulties breathing, neurological development impairment, visual and hearing loss and infections are common, meaning survivors can face significant and long-term disability and ill health. The funds raised will help the ward to improve the care provided by affording additional medical and non-medical equipment not usually afforded via the NHS. Some examples include sensory lights, incubator covers/ cot tents to support the infants developmental and Cuski miniboo’s to support parent and baby bonding. It also is used to enlist items and services to support family’s mental health through this difficult time such as the VCreate. a program subscription which enables parents who are unable to be with their baby to receive video/photo updates securely.
