Alyssa and I became friends when we were 14 and 15 through YoungLife and have been very close ever since- I have even had the privilege to live with her for two years now. She is undeniably authentic, hilarious, and an incredible friend. I'm so lucky to have her in my life, and our community is blessed by her.
Back in 2009 Alyssa was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent two ventriculostomies to relieve her symptoms at the time. Since then they have monitored the tumor growth with semi-annual & annual trips to Stanford for testing. She is blessed with the best of the best as far as doctors go... he is the Chief Pediatric Neurosurgeon and they have an amazing relationship.
During her last scan they found significant change in the size of her brain tumor. Due to that discovery, the next step for her is a surgery (January 31st) to biopsy the tumor cells. This is the tip of the ice berg as far as this journey goes.. i.e. possible chemotherapy or radiation depending on what they find out through the biopsy.
This is not cheap. Thank God for health insurance, but even with that, there are immense out of pocket expenses, time taken off of work for her and her family, and multiple stays in the bay area. My hope and prayer is that we can help to make this journey easier on the Worley family through financial support. I know that they will appreciate this tremendously.
