Help W3 SWIM Sisters save lives through aquatics

Greetings!

We are happy to introduce ourselves as the W3 SWIM Sister Swimmers! Growing up in South Florida, we embarked on an unusual journey in swimming. In the Black community, swimming hasn't been popular, but, learning to swim offers safety in addition to great opportunities for college scholarships, employment and a healthy lifestyle.

Whatever you can donate is greatly appreciated, as we are truly grateful for anyone that chooses to support this movement. Our fundraising efforts will help:

  • Provide scholarships
  • Afford lane and pool rental fees for lessons and clinics
  • Provide funds for the printing and publishing of our educational children's book series
  • Obtain professional photography and video for our lessons
  • Grant us website development maintenance
  • Fund educational and promotional tours

Our Story:

We began swimming in elementary school and competed in various school and city recreational teams. As a result, the three of us were able to earn college scholarships and increased our earning potential by lifeguarding, teaching and coaching swimming. By sharing our story, offering swim lessons, podcasting, and creating social media posts, we've acquired clientele in our current cities, Charlotte, NC and Greensboro, NC. People enjoy learning from us and are interested in continuing to grow in their knowledge of the skills and activities that come with a deeper understanding of the water.

Unfortunately, we've encountered numerous roadblocks that have prevented us from consistently offering resources that we believe can help increase participation in swimming from the Black community. The cost of participating in swimming can be costly, and the funds raised would be used for swim equipment, swimwear, swim lessons and publishing educational materials about swimming. These are just some tools that will help us on a more impactful level. Eventually, we want to help communities of color to build swim facilities and maintain programming at those locations. Our dreams are big, but we need a lot of help to increase momentum on our journey.

Through our sisterhood and experience in the swimming world, we have seen the disparity between aquatic careers, aquatic sports, and the Black community. According to the CDC, Black children, are at higher risk of drowning than other groups. Experts explain that accessible swim lessons and water safety training can help prevent the number of Black people that drown every year.

By faith, we are taking on this journey because we have experienced, first hand, the positive and lasting impact that swimming has had in our lives. We welcome any words of encouragement, your swim stories, shares, and prayers, that will help us stay on the path to create positive aquatic opportunities for Black communities.
