This fundraiser has been organized by Cayla Defren and Stacey Seubert on behalf of Mike & Stacey Abdallah and their children.
On Saturday, May 22nd, while training for his next triathlon, Mike Abdallah was involved in a serious bicycle accident. He was sent by ambulance to St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam. Once they determined the severity of his condition, he was immediately transferred to Albany Medical Center, as they are better equipped to handle the severe injuries at their level one trauma center.
Mike suffered 5 broken ribs, a fractured scapula, significant road rash, and a severe concussion. After two days in the hospital, he was prematurely discharged.
He was home for just 9 hours when his family called an ambulance due to very low oxygen levels. He was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and then immediately transferred back to Albany Medical Center.
He was admitted to the surgical ICU at Albany Med., where he remains today.
Since his readmittance to the hospital, the family has endured many challenges, and, though we all know Mike is strong, he has had many setbacks, and he still has a long road ahead.
Mike was diagnosed with subcutaneous emphysema, a condition where air escapes into the tissue under his skin. In addition to that, he continued to suffer and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Doctors inserted a chest tube and performed lung surgery to relieve the condition. This resulted in a second chest tube being inserted.
What comes next is a litany of other hurdles from a blood clot in his left lung to a bundle branch block in his heart and fluid in the left lower lobe of his lung that has been aspirated.
Mike is a fighter, but he needs your help. A full recovery is expected, but it won’t be quick or easy. While the accident was just a few weeks ago, it has placed unexpected financial burdens on the family.
Several friends and extended family members have stepped up to help the Abdallah family during this time, and the family has been humbled by the care and support that has been offered. THANK YOU!
Mike is known for being a fun, hardworking, free-spirited, simple man who loves to run, swim and bike. He is kind, loving, and he’s the best husband, dad, and papa around.
Due to Mike’s extended stay and expenses the family will continue to incur through this long recovery, we have created this donation page. Your donation will help offset hospital bills and the family’s costs for meals, gas, and hotel stays. Your gift will ensure that Mike’s wife, Stacey, and their children, Jimmy, Stacey, David & Michael, can continue to be there to support him in each step of his recovery.
