Writing of a Torah Scroll In loving memory of Captain Dekel
Captain Dekel Swissa, Platoon Commander (z”l)
On the morning of Simchat Torah (22 Tishrei, 5784), October 7th, 2023, Dekel was the commander of the military base in the protection of Beri. As hundreds of terrorists infiltrated the base, Dekel assigned his soldiers to protect various stations while he commanded and managed everything. He fired on terrorists, ran to assist soldiers, gave orders, handled real-time communications, and evacuated the wounded, all with a clear, alert mind and the utmost competence. While under heavy fire and shooting at the onslaught of terrorists, he was forced to send his troops to the shelter for their protection. Dekel was killed, saving the rest of his platoon.
God willing, the Torah scroll will be ready in the month of Elul, when we will have a glorious dedication ceremony with Dekel’s platoon in attendance.
We cordially invite you to take part in writing and presenting this Torah scroll in honor of Dekel. With God’s help, we will commemorate Dekel’s memory in this loving and meaningful way and fulfill his longstanding desire to contribute a Torah scroll to his community.
May his memory be a blessing.
