Writing My Story

Donation protected

I recently applied for a writing fellowship where I could spend a week upstate working on my manuscript.

The fellowship is coming up really soon June 22-29 & so I have to give them an answer ASAP.

As most of my time goes to raising a 6 year old little boy -  and the responsibilities that come with ensuring the bills are paid - I am typically not awarded time to focus ONLY on writing. That is a luxury.

This fellowship, even if briefly, would be that time.

I like most of us, have a complicated relationship with asking for help, especially when we all exist at a time where we all need our coins and  nothing is affordable.

I appreciate the friends who pushed me to create this and even offered to make one for me.

This fellowship comes at a time where I am transitioning out of my full time work due to them downsizing.

The  good thing  about not having a job is I will have more time to write and possibly work to pursue writing full time.

The nagging thing is bread is tight.

The fellowship is 1350 and I was awarded a partial scholarship in the amount of 900.

I am raising funds only for what I need - for the remaining 450 and the Amtrak fare which is 70 each way.

As always, if you know me, my mission is to continue to share knowledge around process and my journey. If you follow me on IG I post tons of resources there.

My commitment with this experience is no different. Please let me know if you need help applying for residencies, fellowships, creating artists statements.

The picture I chose for this campaign is a commissioned piece by artist @Fanesha Fabre (hire her!) -

It is a shot of where I grew up, Troutman Street, the hottest block in Bushwick Brooklyn in the 90’s - where nothing beautiful was supposed to bloom from this kind of war-zone.

Here I am Bushwick - both the bloom and the war zone.

No worries if you cannot contribute.
My gratitude and love remains the same.
