Writing Award in Memory of David A. Myers

Donation protected
David A. Myers was at his core a writer and a deep, reflective thinker. He graduated from Drake University in 1973 with a degree in Journalism, which helped hone skills he’d use throughout his 35-year career as a Professor of Law at Valparaiso University. Dave died on August 28, 2019 after a 16-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Before he died, Dave expressed to his family that he would like an annual writing award at Drake University established in his name.

One could often hear Dave saying that he felt college was less a place where one grew professionally and more a place where one developed personally, learning more about oneself, others, and the world at large. The creation of this award captures Dave’s spirit of promoting critical, reflexive thinking and self-expression.

Drake University has set up an account for this award and we (Dave’s children) have started this GoFundMe page as a way to collect money for the award to send to Drake. The GoFundMe platform generally considers donations as personal gifts. For anyone wishing to send a tax-deductible gift, you can write a check made out to “Drake SJMC” with “David A. Myers Writing Award” in the notes, and mail it to:
