Bushfires have been raging through Perth's north east for two days; homes have been lost and whole communities have been evacuated. Emergency workers are fighting to get the blaze under control.
Western Australia has a strong and vibrant community of writers and creatives. With Perth still in lockdown, we wanted to do something to help those affected by both emergencies in our state. But what could we possibly give in return for asking for donations to help those in need?
For two weeks only, stories, novel extracts and poetry will be available at Writers for WA to read while we're all at home doing our bit to keep the community safe. Please consider making a donation to The Lord Mayor Distress Relief Fund in return for access to these incredible creative works. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will help our fellow Western Australians rebuild their lives in the aftermath of this devastating event.

More information about The Lord Mayor Distress Relief Fund: The LMDRF was used as the official state fund to raise and coordinate donations to support the victims of natural disasters occurring within Western Australia during the 2015/16 period. City of Perth administers the LMDRF. All administration costs are wholly absorbed by the City of Perth, so 100 per cent of all money donated go directly to those in need. More than $10 million was raised for the Esperance Fires that occurred in November 2015 and the Waroona and District Fire in January 2016. 100% of donations were distributed to over 550 applicants who lost their homes and/or other property and to the next of kin of those individuals who lost their lives as a result of these two disasters.
