Hello friends of the sea. Welcome to year five of the  24 Hour/Go Because You Can paddle to benefit families fighting cancer!

We are at it again because cancer is a taker and our goal is to give just as much right back.

What cancer can’t touch is our spirit, our drive and our will to live every day to its fullest potential. A community of people giving back in a very grass roots way. We are not a foundation or a charity - we don’t have red tape. Our goal is a simple one - fill envelopes with cash donations and a note of support from their community, and get them in the hands of families dealing with cancer. A breath of normalcy for them - thanks to you.

A bit of history for you:

In the spring of 2015, a crew of 6 paddlers took on the challenge of paddling relay style for 24 hours. Their goal was singular: Raise awareness and funds for local families arm wrestling with cancer. The community rallied around them and they raised $5000 and filled 5 envelopes with $1000 each, hand delivered to 5 families letting them know that they are not alone.  As one person it is difficult to make a difference - but as a community - we are proving that making a difference is more than possible - it is a joy.

In the spring of 2016 we grew to 7 teams of six paddling across the US and Canada, including our team from Wrightsville Beach, NC. Collectively we were able to raise $50,000 delivering 50 envelopes to families in the thick of cancer.

2017 was a game changer. 22 teams across the US and Canada said yes - and collectively we were able to deliver 145 envelopes!

In 2018, Our North Carolina team raised over $6,000, which was placed directly into the hands of 6 families battling cancer.

On April 13th  of this year - 40 teams across the country will once again be paddling from 8 a.m on the 13th until 8 a.m on the 14th.

Our NC home base this year is the Blockade Runner at Wrightsville Beach, devoted partners in the cause.  Please come out, say hello, cheer loud,  donate to support these families. Even better, join in for some time on the water!

Looking forward to seeing you the 13th.

Friends and Supporters of this 24 hour paddle/Wrightsville Beach/Go Because You Can fundraiser to support families fighting cancer. After an amazing 2019 campaign and 24 hour paddle, which included donations from this gofundme site, as well as cash, checks and fundraisers for our NC team, we have raised over $10,200 (twice our goal). By next week, 10 families will feel the love and support from this community of paddlers, and from you all. To protect their privacy, the names of these families will not be released, but please feel free to message me privately if you wonder about a particular person or family. Nationally, the totals may reach over $250K, but those numbers are not yet finalized. We hope you enjoy the photo from the end of our paddle, and please know how honored we are to represent you during this year's event.
