Maggie and Joey had a high risk pregnancy as a result of their twins sharing an amniotic sac. Their twins (Rhys and Ash) were born on February 3rd, 2019 weighing in at 2 pounds, 10 oz and 2 pounds, 4 oz, respectively, at 27 weeks and 6 days.
It has been a rough road for this family with months of NICU care for both babies due to complications that come with prematurity. Moreover, little Ash has Congenital Heart Disease that falls into the category of Complex Single Ventricle and he also has Heterotaxy Syndrome (no spleen). This little guy has already gone through quite a few procedures and will have to go through multiple lifesaving surgeries and requires inpatient care at this time. Maggie has been living at the Ronald McDonald House in Houston since January 2nd of this year. On top of all the stress this family has endured for these two babies, they are looking at astronomical medical bills. As of today, their bills total over $3 million dollars just for Ash's care up to this point. He still has months more surgeries to go before they can even consider coming home. As a family of 5, including the twins' older brother Lucas, with 1 self-employed income this is overwhelming and unrealistic for them to even consider paying on their own. They have been fortunate enough to have some assistance from SSI MEDICAID due to the twins' being extremely premature. However, that assistance is $30 per boy a month and the Medicaid part runs out soon after the boys are discharged (which Rhys is already discharged and at RMH). The family can't afford the keep insurance on Rhys and Ash, pay bills, and pay Maggie's way in Houston. Just to see Ash costs $13 a day due to parking.
