- I
Hi, I'm Wren, a 28-year-old trans woman living in London. This fundraiser exists to make my bottom surgery (GRS) possible.
I've been out as trans for around 8 years now, and medically transitioning for the last 3. After feeling that it was too scary or too impossible for a long time, the road to wanting bottom surgery has led me to a point where I'm certain I want this to be part of my transition. I have realised that the deep, lifelong discomfort I have felt about my body is something that I can and should address. Starting oestrogen has already enormously changed my life for the better, and I finally know that this is the next step forward for me.
I have been on the NHS waiting list for gender-affirming care for 3 years and have yet to receive a first appointment. I do not expect to for several more years, and I cannot trust the NHS to provide me with an acceptable standard of care in this area.
I have some savings set aside and am going to continue saving alongside this fundraiser to make up the total costs for pre-surgery consultations, the surgery itself, and my living costs during the recovery period. I know that times are hard and there are too many worth causes out there and I've accepted that the process of reaching my goal will be long, but anything you feel able to contribute will be gratefully received.
Having reached a point of stability in my life, I feel able to take this step knowing I have a profoundly supportive community around me (with particular gratitude to my incredible partners Amy and Mia, and to my friends Envy and Arden, without whose conversation and support I may not have reached this point). Thank you for reading, and keep looking after each other <3
