Help Bill Heal

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Emily Bourne; I am the daughter of Bill Bourne: a Canadian musician and songwriter, father and friend. My dad, Bill, is experiencing hardships associated with illness. I have created this fundraiser to provide an opportunity for all those who have known and loved Bill; to give back to a man who has given so much of himself.

Bill would never seek out assistance on his own; he is uncomfortable with the possibility of being a burden or imposition. I have created this fundraiser on his behalf because I believe many would be grateful to assist my dad during this difficult time.

Out of respect for my dad and his privacy, I will share as little as is necessary to help you understand his situation.

Bill was diagnosed with stage 4 bladder cancer in late 2020. In August of 2021 his kidneys began to fail due to cancer-consuming his bladder and connecting tissues, creating an obstruction. Luckily, medical intervention was able to overcome this life-threatening condition temporarily.

Bill remains optimistic that he will heal. He hopes to recover from this cancer through healthy living, meditation, and minimal but necessary medical involvement. He is experiencing chronic pain and fatigue; it is difficult to work and provide for himself.

I hope to raise enough money that my dad does not need to concern himself with basic living expenses. I want him to have the opportunity to focus on himself and his healing process. He deserves to feel safe and supported by all those that love and appreciate him.

Please donate if you can and share this fundraiser far and wide. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your contribution. Bill thanks you too.

"Bill was raised in a musical family in rural Alberta. When he was 2 years old, he was known to sleep behind the piano at country dances. His parents played dance music in community halls in beautiful farming country. The love of nature and of music and of people gathering for celebration has been with him for his whole life.

Bill loves to collaborate with friends (musicians). His most recent recording is called 'A Love Fandango' and features electric slide guitar and banjo (two instruments Bill has rarely recorded), as well as several other instruments played by Bill, and background vocals by Bill, bass by Keith Rempel and bass & lead guitar on the song 'Hunker Down' by Paul Steffes. In 2015 Bill and friends released 'Trancescapes - Gaia Sadhana', a spontaneous meditation/party record.  In 2012, Bill released a solo record called 'Songs From A Gypsy Caravan' - barebones - to critical acclaim. In 2011, Bill released 'Bluesland' featuring his band, The Free Radio Band, which included his son Pat, Pa Joe, Moses Gregg and Miguel Ferrer. In 2009 Bill recorded with Jasmine Ohlhauser and Wyckham Porteous in the band 'bop ensemble'. Previous to bop ensemble, Bill collaborated with Eivør Pálsdóttir from the Faroe Islands. He produced and performed on Eivør's third solo CD, 'eivør'. The recording won double at the Danish Music Awards Folk in 2006. Other collaborations: with Alan MacLeod, Shannon Johnson, Hans Staymer and Andreas Schuld, and Lester Quitzau & Madagascar Slim (Tri-Continental), as well as his solo projects, have all attained award status in Canada.

A multiple Canadian Juno Award winner, Bill has received international acclaim for his recordings and live performances. A veteran of the international blues and roots scene, life on the road is reflected in Bill's music - powerful rhythms and soulful songs, steeped in World Beat, Blues, Cajun, Celtic, Folk, Latin, Funk, Poetry and more..."
