Support for the Sisk Family

What's the story?
Saturday mornings are meant to be about picking out the most sprinkled donuts at the local bakery and jamming out to your favorite songs on the car radio. Saturday mornings are supposed to be about making memories with your family. However, on the morning of 18 January 2020, the memories made for the Sisk family were those of nightmares.

Katy Sisk and her three young children stopped at the mailbox, just as they had countless times before. Unfortunately, this time was different. When this young mom stopped her SUV to mail a letter, there were three armed men who had set their sights on the vulnerable family.

In a terrifying moment,  these hooded men robbed Katy at gunpoint. While they demanded her keys with a gun pressed to her neck, Katy agreed while also begging for her and her children's lives.

Six year-old Addy saw the  man with a gun pressed to her mother. The first grader screamed and jumped out of her booster seat to escape the hold up. However, 4 year-old Micah and 13 month-old David were still strapped into carseats and were unable to escape on their own.

The echo of the demands to hand over the keys bombarded Katy as she lifted her baby boy out of his carseat. Before she could even pull Micah to safety from the armed robbers, all three thieves were in the car. Katy slung baby David onto one side and then stretched her free arm into the back of the SUV to pull Micah out of the car to escape the armed men.  She begged them again to wait. "I just want my babies," she cried as she yanked Micah from the very back of the SUV.

Katy pulled her children tightly to her as the stolen car sped away. They raced from the mailbox to the safety of their neighbor's home down the street. The thieves had their family car and all of its belongings, but Katy and her three children were safe after those horrifying events.

What's the latest?

Two weeks later and there is still no trace of Katy's car or the thieves that changed the Sisk family's life in a matter of minutes. They are now facing the challenge of purchasing a new car while dealing with the emotional heartache of what happened that day.

What can we do to help?

As a community, it can feel helpless to know that a local family was robbed in such a violent manner just around the corner from their home. What can we do? How can we help? While we cannot undo the tragedy that happened, we can support this family as they move forward. We can send our support in the form of well wishes and prayers and funds to replace their stolen vehicle and three carseats.
