Supporting Carmen & Her Family After a Life-Altering Medical Emergency

Carmen had only just turned 18.

She was standing at the very beginning of adulthood. Starting life working, making plans for her future, when her life was suddenly and violently interrupted.

Without warning, Carmen suffered a catastrophic brain injury caused by the rupture of a fragile blood vessel she was born with. Something no one could have predicted. In an instant, everything changed. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors discovered severe swelling in her brain. To save her life, surgeons performed an emergency operation that required removing a portion of her skull to relieve the pressure.

Since that day, Carmen has remained hospitalized in a sedated state, receiving constant, intensive care. Her medical team has confirmed that more surgeries and treatments are certain. What her recovery will look like and how long it will take remains unknown.

For a family, watching their 18-year-old daughter fight for her life is something no one is ever prepared for. Carmen’s parents and loved ones have put everything on pause to be by her side every day, holding onto hope while navigating fear, exhaustion, and heartbreak.

This fundraiser exists to help ease the immense financial burden they are now facing, including:
