Our beautiful Aunty Hermione—known to everyone as Hermie—has always been the one who shows up for others. She’s the aunty who never misses a birthday, the friend who answers every call, and the woman who has spent her entire life lifting up the people around her.

Recently, Hermie received heartbreaking news: she has mouth cancer.

Yesterday, she underwent a 13-hour surgery to remove her lower jaw and begin an extensive facial reconstruction. This was a major, life-changing operation, and she now faces a long and extremely challenging road to recovery.

Hermie is a devoted mum to Aaron, Shelley, and Haylee-Maree, and a proud grandmother to Jorja, Blake, Oliver, William, Rita, Alana, and Cruz. Her family is her world, and they are standing by her side through every painful step of this journey.

For over 50 years, Hermie dedicated her life to the hospitality industry—spreading joy, humour, and warmth at the Sulphide Club and later Wests. She made countless people smile, welcomed thousands through the doors, and treated everyone like family. Her kindness has touched generations.

Now, for the first time, Hermie needs our help.

Her recovery will involve months of healing, rehabilitation, medical appointments, travel, and ongoing treatment. The costs are overwhelming, and we want to make sure she can focus on one thing only: getting better.
