Save Callie

There have been a long line of great pet’s in my family in my 32 years on this earth, none of which have touched my heart the way Callie has. She has been my first official dog that belonged to me. I have wanted a collie since I was 4 years old and watched Lassie re-runs on television. At the age of  25, my wish came true. I brought home the most beautiful dog I had ever set my eyes on. She was only 3 months old. If you know anything about collies, they have a way of stealing your heart like no other dog on this planet.

This beauty has become my entire life and heart in the short 7 years she has been with me. She has been the mother hen to all of the animals we currently own and previously owned. It has been an awful past year for the Miller family in the pet department to say the least. We lost our Pomeranian, Prissy, at Christmas within a months time of being diagnosed with kidney failure. A day later, my brother got news that his Greyhound, Ironman, had developed bone cancer.

Fast forward 6 months and on June 9, 2018, it became time for me to be there for Callie during her worst time. I had gotten word that she had an aggressive throat cancer. We have scheduled her to see our other pets Oncologist. We are going to do everything we can to save her but at the same time keep her living comfortably when it becomes too much for her.

Since we are currently going through cancer treatment with one dog, we already know how pricey this can get. My brother is already breaking the bank to help his own dog, along with my parents assisting him.  I never thought I would be one of those people setting one of these up but I am going to need all the help I can get. I have already spent $1500 to get the tumor removed. Next will be surgery to remove the remaining cancer and reconstruct her lower jawbone. This radical surgery is needed in order for Callie to survive. Without it she will succumb to the cancer within 6 weeks. With successful surgery, she stands a great chance of living for 3-5 more years.

This will be a very costly surgery so I am going to start out hoping to raise $6,000, even though I know the chances are it will drastically exceed that. If you can’t afford to help, your prayers would be appreciated too. Any funds raised exceeding Callie’s surgery and after care will be donated to Angel Care to be designated to help any pet owner who cannot afford future cancer treatments for their pet.

From the bottom of our hearts the Miller family thanks you all, and so does Callie.
