Evie's Army

Evie Marie is a smart, sweet, sassy, shy & thoughtful almost 8 year old. Evie's health mysteriously started declining the past few months. Many Dr's were seen with no answers to her constant and worsening symptoms of severe headaches, daily nausea , & back & neck pain.   On June 5th 2015 when Evie took a turn for the worst, her mother & father took her to Blank Children's hospital in Des Moines. They were finally given an answer to all of Evie's symptoms after performing a CT scan, a mass in her brain was discovered. Evie & her mother Ali were immediatly life flighted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Within 72 hours of the brain mass being discovered, our warrior Evie went through an 8 hour surgery by the amazing Mayo neurosurgery team to remove the malignant Medulloblastoma brain tumor. Due to the proximity to the brainstem some of the tumor was left behind to avoid any damaging long term effects. Evie is now relearning how to do basic things, as such a surgery takes its toll on the brain & body functions. She will remain in the hospital until she can walk, swallow, and regain coordination.  Some other effects such as eye movements may stick around for months to come.
Starting 4 weeks after surgery, Evie will start 6 weeks of radiation.  This will take place at the Mayo clinics new proton radiation therapy center. She will have treatments 5 days per week. After radiation, she will then start a 55 week course of chemotherapy. This process will coincide with the school year so Evie will have a tough time ahead of her.  If you ask Evie, she will admit she is scared but she knows she can do it with her mommy & daddy by her side.
Many of you are asking, "what can I do?" Some are providing comfort; many of you are praying; but others are looking for ways to contribute. This is where you come in. In order for Ali, Evie's mommy to be with her during this brave battle, she won't be able to return to work until after the radiation is complete, and then will be decreased hours. This family has always been hardworking & generous to others. They are in a time of need now, so any donation amount is greatly appreciated and will help. We are calling upon Evie's army to help with our warrrior Evie's long battle  she has against her.
