Hello, my name is Alexander Retberg. I am a sophomore at the Blue Hill Harbor School, and an outdoor enthusiast. I have been accepted to a semester abroad in Ecuador, through an organization called Kroka Expeditions. Kroka Expeditions is an organization rooted in experiential education through wilderness adventure, community living, farming, and the practice of traditional and indigenous skills.

The semester starts on August, 31, 2015 in Marlow, New Hampshire where we prepare for a month with physical training, wilderness skills and daily Spanish lessons. We will then go to Ecuador until early December. During this time we will stay on a farm on an inter-Andean plateau, continuing Spanish lessons, biking into the Amazon rain forest, hiking and practicing our newly learned mountaineering skills on some of the highest volcanos in the world. After our time in Ecuador we will return to Kroka base camp in Marlow, NH for a week to finish school work and wrap up the semester.

I chose this program for language immersion, to spend more time in the great outdoors, to work in a close knit community, and to spend time with peers interested in the same things. I enjoy carving, felting, other folk arts, and the natural sciences. This program will help me to enhance those skills. After homeschooling and growing up on a farm, this is the next step in my life education.
I have been raking blueberries, doing masonry work and landscaping along with other odd jobs for the past two years working towards this semester abroad.
I have $5,500 left to raise, which is where you come in. Please help send me on this amazing semester abroad. Please give as you are able, every little bit helps.
Thank you
PS I do not have a Facebook account so this is linked to my mother's page (Heather Retberg).
