My name is Anita and last week on February 3, 2016, I lost the love of my life, best friend and husband of over 40 years to a hard fought battle with cancer. This disease may have taken away his physical body, but it never touched the resilience of his spirit! As difficult as it was watching him suffer through pain and now with him being gone, having to ask for help with medical and burial expenses adds another layer of difficulty, discomfort and sorrow. Nevertheless, this is our reality.

Santiago was a simple man of great values and respected by all. He was an amazing father to our three sons Luis, Santiago, and Armando. He was our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He valued family, exemplified a strong work ethic and expressed a joy for life. For over 40 years, Santiago, worked in the Oil/Hazardous Waste Toxic cleanup industry and was recognized as one of its pioneers.

During his sickness, I continued to work my full-time job and I’m extremely grateful that my employer allowed me to work a flexible schedule so that I could transport my husband to and from his appointments. In all of that, still, the medical bills and prescription costs on top of regular living expenses have devastated our financial well-being. Everything we’ve saved or made in the past 40 years has been spent on medical care and treatment. So it’s with a humble heart that we are asking for donations to offset the financial burden that remains. Whether it be $5 or $5,000, every amount will help.
