Sorry English-speaking friends, I will just take a moment to tell my story in French first. Please scroll down a bit for English version!
Cordialement,
Manon Herbinet.

Hello!
My name is Manon, I am a 20 year old student at Flagler College, Florida, and I am coming from Paris, France. I am a junior now majoring in Psychology, and I need your help to finish my undergraduate education so that I can move on to my PhD and get things done to change the world for the best. I am interested in neuroscience, and I am planning on working in the field of research to find a cure to Alzheimer's Disease, and I also have an independent research project to link various areas of psychology to Cancer research. I am very excited about my future, because I believe I have what it takes to make a difference. I am passionate about research and I am confident that with the proper education, I can make my dreams come true and help in the process thousands of people. Indeed, in the US only, over 5 million people suffer from Alzheimer's Disease, putting a toll on family members caring for them as well. Please help me help them.
From as far as I can remember, I have always been very ambitious and hard-working, always setting goals for myself and giving it my best shot until I achieved what I had planned to do. In only two short years in the US, I have achieved a lot. Last year, I received a 4.0 GPA, thus accessing to the President's list and meeting my school's president.
I also got elected President of the International Students Club, managing over a hundred students from all parts of the world! We are also in charge of several charity events and fundraisings, which makes me really proud. I get to share some aspects of my French culture with others, and do good around me at the same time. This is me the day I got elected in the white pants at the bottom right.
I also got inducted in Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology last spring, a great honor, and I am already running next fall for an officer position there.
I am also very proud to be starting research next fall. I will work in one of my professor's research lab on campus, helping on many different projects, and hopefully I will get the chance to be published and to present my research findings at national conferences across the United States. Furthermore, I am planning on applying for an intership at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville next summer. The Mayo Clinic is one of the best of the country, and it has a great service specialized on Alzheimer's Disease.
I have the grades, the motivation, my professors are behind me, and soon I will have the experience too. The only thing standing in my way to achieve all of my dreams as of right now is money. My father paid for my first year, but he could not afford more than that to his great regret. My mother took a loan back in France to pay for my second year, but that is all she can borrow, and she is getting very distressed for me as well because she wants to see me succeed and my entire family is making sacrifices every month to be able to pay back my first loan. As an international student, I cannot have any financial aid, and I also cannot legally work off campus. I am working the maximum amount of hours I can on campus, which is only 6 a week, and it is not helping me much. I get paid about $1,700 a semester, and I have to pay $7,400 in tuitions only, for that same semester. People may have lost faith in the American Dream, but I still believe in it, and websites such as this one are the modern American Dream to me. I am a believer, and I am confident that if I work hard enough and I want it bad enough, I can make it. Please help me keep this dream alive!
In total, I would need about $25,000 to $30,000. If I can get to $22,000, I could probably find a way to borrow the rest of it here in the US or to work over the summer back in France as much as I could, and I could get to come back and finish my education. This is why I need your help now, even if it is $10, it can make a huge difference!
If you can help, I would be forever grateful! Anything at all helps, even simply sharing this with your friends and family, we never know where help can come from!
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my story! Merci!
