Woven: Building a Hub for Queer and BIPOC Families
WHO WE ARE
Woven Bodies , co-created by Alexandra Garcia + Morgane Richardson is an inclusive perinatal practice supporting queer folks + allies in their journey from family planning through parenthood.
Woven was started out of necessity. When we, Morgane and Alexandra, began our own conception + parenting journey as an interracial, queer family, there were so few resources available. We were working in the dark and had to forge our own path. The few resource books that did exist were wonderful but outdated and largely geared towards the white, upper middle class lesbian body. Everyone else was left out.
So we birthed woven. We had a dream of a queer and BIPOC run digital hub where all people, no matter where they live or their financial resources, could access antiracist, queer informed support around fertility, conception, birth and the postpartum. Everyone is welcome to use our offerings, but this space centers the queer body. Not the other way around.
All of the resources we offer are community based and within the pay-what-you-can + sliding scale models. We hope to keep it that way. These are the models that allowed us to access the same services for our family.
WHAT WE OFFER
We currently offer the community the following (all digital):
• Queer/Trans/GNC Family Building Group
• Live classes for all folks to explore the ins and outs of expanding their families; from understanding reproductive cycles, the difference between IVF vs. IUI, to adoption laws and lactation support. More here
• Birth doula referrals
• Acupuncture/Acupressure/Herbal Consults
• Doula mentorship + Perinatal Health Educator Trainings
WHERE YOUR CONTRIBUTION GOES
We're ready to grow and do more but we need your help with:
Pay-What-You-Can Classes.
We never want to turn someone away because of money. More than anything, your contribution allows us to continue with a pay-what-you-can (no questions asked) platform.
Administrative Fees.
There are so many fees that go into running a business. You'll be helping us with our web hosting costs, content design, accountants, incorporation + legal business fees, etc.
Rebuilding our website
This isn't just about looks. If we seek to be accessible for all, our digital platform needs to reliably deliver those resources. We need to rebuild our platform to make it so.
Sustainability.
For now, every cent we make goes back into this idea that we have. In order to make this sustainable (and doable), we need to have a little cushion to pay for childcare and have time away from other work to focus on this growth.
