This precious girl that we found and decided to shelter temporarily managed to escape and run away on Sunday, February 23rd around 7am. She was missing for over a day and was waiting at my gate the next night. When I let her back in my gate, she was badly wounded and hurt and could barely walk. I rushed her to the emergency animal hospital that night, and the doctors assumed by her injuries that she was hit by a car. They also assumed that she must have been hit on Sunday since some of her injuries and blood were already dried. We only took her in 3 days prior to her running away. How she managed to be hit by a car and missing for over a day and still find her way back, I really don't know. All I know is that she survived and is a fighter, and she is worth fighting for!
That night I broke down from how hurt and sad I was, even though this is not my dog. Hurt knowing she really has no one and is alone. Hurt knowing she was hurt. But most of all, sad knowing that through it all, she chose to find her way back to where she felt safe. Now I am doing everything in my power to help her recover and keep her safe.
That night, urgent care examined her and gave her pain killers to help her sleep comfortably. The next morning, I took her to another hospital to get her x-rayed and get some blood tests done, and given extra medications. The results of the x-rays showed that she has a dislocated leg (the back right leg she can't walk on and the leg the car impacted) and she will need surgery soon because she is in so much pain. The blood results came in the next day revealing that she also has a high liver enzyme count and bought more medication to control it.
I've already spent a pretty penny on urgent care, tests, medications, and food and necessities to help her with her pain and be a bit more comfortable. I have since hit up organizations for help, but have had no luck. Most of which turned me down because she is a stray dog and that they only rescue and help dogs that are from shelters because of "laws and protocols." How is that fair to people like me who is pouring their heart and money on a dog that is as abandoned?
Today, I am asking and seeking for help. This surgery is not cheap, and that's excluding extra medications, check-ups, and exams needed after this surgery. They also don't offer payment plans and expect people in my situation to get this money out of thin air. She needs this surgery as soon as possible before it creates any more complications, which is why I am trying to raise this money as soon as I can. It has been really hard emotionally and financially, and any donations would be such a blessing to her and I. Anything and everything will be immensely appreciated and will mean the world to us! And from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for having the time to read our story! Thank you, and God Bless!
