Send some love (and support) to the NYC frontline

Emergency COVID-19 Funding For Front Line NYC Hospital Staff.

UPDATE: TODAY WE ARE CONTRIBUTING DIRECT TO THE METROPOLITAN, AND VIA THE PAGNY RELIEF FUND (https://www.pagny.org/resources/pagny-covid-19-relief-fund/) TO MAKE SURE YOUR SUPPORT REACHES OUR HEALTH WORKERS AT THE TIME THEY NEED IT. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED SO FAR.

THEY FEEL YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT.

I'm Kelly, and I live and work in New York City. I don't know how to describe all the many things I feel about what we're all going through right now, and I'm not going to try.

One thing I do know is that every single person I speak to wants to do whatever they can to help, but in most cases they don't know how.

Staying at home and isolated is a responsible and difficult thing to do, but it is also disempowering. It makes us feel helpless and useless.

Meanwhile, the terrible fact is that the people who we desperately need to be taking action - the doctors and nurses in our hospitals, are overwhelmed. There are not enough hours in the day, or space on the wards, or protective equipment to keep them and their patients safe.

My close friend Raj is an ER doctor at Metropolitan Hospital in Harlem. The photos you see here are of him and the team of people he works with.

I have never seen someone so dedicated and competent be so totally overwhelmed by the task at hand. He is too busy to even ask for help. So I am doing it for him.

What can we do?

This campaign will provide DIRECT FUNDING for the team at Metropolitan Hospital to support them while they work. This will include lodging and transportation, food, water, coffee, and amenities like scrubs, soaps, and protective equipment.

This will not only protect and support hospital workers and keep alive the people who have dedicated their lives to keeping us alive, it will also help to contain the spread of the virus in the hospital, which is one of the most dangerous environments for transmission.

Metropolitan Hospital is part of NYCHHC which is a public health system. This means they don't have a privately owned corporation to back them up financially. We are all they've got.

These supplies are critical, and they are urgent.

This is a time of great hardship for many of us, and a very difficult time to be asking for money. The aim of this campaign is not to make anyone feel bad. It's to give the people who can help, and want to help, the opportunity to do so - directly and in a way that will have a dramatic and immediate impact.

If you can't give to the campaign, you can still help us by sending this link to the people you know, or telling them about it.

What's going on at Metropolitan, and in New York, and around the world, is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

I believe that we still get to decide which of those two comes out on top.

Thank you so much for reading.
