Worthington Field Day
Tax deductible
On December 24, 2017, we lost our friend and classmate, Peter Worthington, and his wife, Victoria, in a tragic plane crash. Clemson University college sweethearts, Pete and Tori were married for six happy months, and resided Federal Hill, Baltimore before they passed away. When they passed, Pete was a third year student at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of law, set to graduate this May, and begin a career with the University of Maryland Sports Compliance Department. Tori was a beloved fourth-grade English Language Arts teacher at the Baltimore International Academy, and had a masters in teaching from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education.
As the seasons begin to change, and the school year comes to a close, we want to come together to remember and celebrate the lives of Pete and Tori, dear members of the greater Baltimore community. We can think of no better way to honor them than to spend a day outdoors, together, supporting a cause that combines their respective passions: sports and teaching.
A group of Pete’s classmates at Maryland Carey Law have thus organized “The Worthington Field Day” - a charity event that will be open to all members of Pete and Tori’s community. The proceeds will be donated in Pete and Tori’s name to the Volo City Kids Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that connects youth in Baltimore with recreational sports leagues. Specifically, these funds will remove barriers to participation and provide children in Baltimore with at least one hour of recreational sports instruction a week, and food and drink for families afterward.
The Worthington Field Day will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 11:30am – 3:30pm at Patterson Park (fields 6 and 7, in the south east corner of the park). During the event, we’ll be taking it all the way back to 5th grade, and will have all the classics: tug of war, a potato sack race, capture the flag, a pie eating contest, and much more. We hope this will be a fun and special day that will pay tribute to their legacy and celebrate their lives in a way they would really love.
To Participate:
To participate, we are requesting a voluntary donation of $18 via this GoFundMe page, but will certainly accept whatever you are willing and able to give. All participants will receive a commemorative coozie, and winning teams will receive a prize. Participants are also invited to a post-field day social, location to be determined. To register, fill out this form no later than May 8.
To Donate:
If you are unable to attend the field day, but would still like to support the Volo City Kids Foundation, and make a donation in Pete and Tori’s name, THANK YOU. You can make your donation via this GoFundMe Page.
