Ready to end the pandemic?? Help support vaccination efforts for those who want to get vaccinated but haven't done so yet.... any amount will help us reach that goal.

 

Worth-A-Shot (formerly Cash for Vax) is a national nonpolitical nonprofit organization, based in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Even though the COVID-19 vaccine is FREE to receive, there are some financial barriers that some individuals face if they were to get vaccinated. We remove those financial barriers by reimbursing newly vaccinated individuals up to $100 for their expenses limited to lost wages, childcare expenses or transportation expenses.

 

Since vaccination is a personal choice, then we don’t want financial barriers to be part of anyone’s decision about whether they are vaccinated or not. Our small organization of SIX volunteers reached NATIONAL NEWS this week, which means we are in need of a lot of support ($$$$$!!) to handle additional applications (we also welcome volunteers!).

 

Two great examples of individuals we've helped:

 

1. A man living in an extremely rural area had a disability that meant he could not drive. He depended on a few family members to drive him anywhere; however those who drive him usually did not support his decision to get vaccinated. The closest Uber/taxi option would cost him $45 one-way....and he did not have others who would help him. We were honored to give him funds to help him get vaccinated.

 

2. A young woman had recently gone through cancer treatments. She knew she was at high risk for Covid but she also knew because of her cancer treatments, she knew it was likely she would experience some of the more extreme temporary symptoms from the vaccination. She works 3 part-time jobs (all very active jobs), usually 6 days a week, and she could not afford to plan that she "might" need to take time off work to deal with side effects. She was agonizing about how she could get vaccinated--the $100 we provided her helped offset her worry and lost wages from the two days she spent off work while recovering from more extreme side effects than usual.

 

We welcome anyone 18+ who lives anywhere in the United States to apply to be a recipient of our program; however, those who have received financial incentives to get vaccinated from their employer or their state are not eligible to ensure adequate funds are available for those without those resources. Other requirements and limitations to eligibility also exist.
