Worst Birthday Present Ever

Donation protected
If you know Ryan Kearns (and good luck finding someone who doesn't!), you most likely can't help but love him.  Whether you've known him all your life, or for just a short time, I'm sure he's made you smile more times than you can count.  As his sister, I think I can speak for all of Ryan's family, friends, and customers when I say that he has an amazing personality and charm, and has impacted all of us for the better in more ways than one.  Now, it's time for us to send some positivity back his way as he goes through what may very well be one of the toughest things he's ever had to go through.

As some of you may know by now, Ryan was viciously attacked at a local establishment on October 2nd, while celebrating his 35th birthday. This attack was not justified in any way in terms of Ryan's behavior.  He was assaulted and threatened with death (as were those in his party) by trying to leave to go home. For most of us, the idea that a man could suffer serious injuries to his face and body, and feel like he might die all because he was ready to go home is, well, ludicrous.

But here we are. To give you an idea of what kind of devastation we're talking about here, Ryan has sustained massive facial injuries, jaw injury, bruising, and he's lost eight teeth, including four on the bottom, and four on the top.

To make matters worse for Ryan, he has already had reconstructive surgery to his jaw in the past.  Ryan broke his jaw as a child in an innocuous accident, and it was mistakenly overlooked.  As he got older, he discovered it had made worse a genetic problem with his jaw.  He had to wear braces for two years, and then have jaw surgery, which included wiring his jaw shut.  As you can imagine, having another massive injury to this already compromised area is one of the worst things that could happen to Ryan.

Many of you have already been asking how you can help.  Thankfully, Ryan does have insurance, but the costs involved with something like this are just astronomical.  Ryan will require extensive medical and dental procedures in order to restore his teeth and jaw function.  In addition, Ryan will have to exhaust all of his work leave in order to recover from the initial impact of the injury, then will likely have little or no leave to cover the time off that will be necessary for the facial reconstructive surgeries.

We all want to help make sure he receives the best of care and has every possible resource available to him to help with his recovery and quality of life.  The best way that we can think to do this right now is to help alleviate the financial stress this will most certainly bring.  Thank you all for your time and care!  With your help, Ryan and his family will get through this.
