Hallo,

mein Name ist Hendrik und ich werde im Juni meine bislang größte Weltkarte an die Wand am Lidl Parkplatz an der Rochusstraße in Köln zeichnen. Mit meiner Familie wohne ich direkt gegenüber und seit ich diese Wand sehe, jucken meine Finger.

Da ich für wenige Monate ein Sabbatical genießen darf, habe ich begrenzt Zeit. Zwei Wochen Vollzeit soll es dauern, das Kunstwerk zu vollenden. Ca. 60qm Fläche werden bemalt.

Die Karte wäre die 21. nachdem wir in Indien, Ecuador, Kolumbien, Marokko, Kambodscha, Mexiko, El Salvador, der Schweiz und in Köln schon fleißig waren. Die Karten sind an Schulen oder Hostels immer der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Zum Lidl kommen täglich hunderte Menschen zum Einkaufen, darunter viele vom Montegymnasium, die bisher auf diese weiße und ereignislose Mauer blicken müssen.

Wir haben nur eine Erde und über diese müssen wir lernen, diese gilt es im Blick zu halten, diese müssen wir schützen, gemeinsam! Hierzu kann die Karte neben der Ästhetik auch zu Diskussionen anregen und uns vor Augen führen, wie be"grenzt" und kostbar unsere Erde ist.

Das gesammelte Geld wird neben den Kosten für Gerüst und Farbe in die Realisierung einer weiteren Karte in Albanien diesen Sommer fließen, wo wir als Familien hinreisen, um auch dort Menschen mit unserer Kunst zu erreichen.

my name is Hendrik, and in June I will be drawing my largest world map to date on the wall next to the Lidl parking lot on Rochusstraße in Cologne. I live with my family directly across from it, and ever since I first saw this wall, my fingers have been itching to start.

As I’m fortunate to be on a short sabbatical, my time is limited. I plan to complete the artwork within two weeks of full-time work. Around 60 square meters of wall space will be painted.

This map will be the 21st one I’ve created, following others in India, Ecuador, Colombia, Morocco, Cambodia, Mexico, El Salvador, Switzerland, and previously here in Cologne. The maps are always accessible to the public, often at schools or hostels. Hundreds of people visit Lidl daily—including many students from the nearby Montessori Gymnasium—who currently face a plain, empty wall.

We only have one Earth. We must learn about it, keep it in our sights, and protect it—together! Beyond its visual appeal, the map is also meant to spark conversations and remind us just how “limited” and precious our planet is.

The money raised will go toward the cost of scaffolding and paint, as well as help fund the creation of another map this summer in Albania, where we will travel as a family to connect with people there through our art.
