San Diego Flood Destroyed My Home
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Monserrat Lopez, and on 01/22, our lives were changed by the San Diego flash flood. My 8-year-old son and I are grateful to be safe, however our home succumbed to the rising waters. These waters were contaminated with level 3 water (water that contains dangerous matter, ranging from pathogenic to toxic agents) and all of our belongings were contaminated. We only have the clothes we were wearing that day.
Thanks to the kindness of friends, we have a temporary place to stay for the week but all our belongings are lost, swallowed by the floodwaters that reached even the ceiling.
Navigating the aftermath of this flood is an unexpected challenge. Faulty drainage (due to city neglect and construction) and heavy rains in our neighborhood led to this catastrophe, and now, as a single mom, I face the daunting task of finding a new home for us in a city where housing is already hard to come by and expensive.
This struggle is not new to me. I once faced teen homelessness, but through determination and hard work, I earned my degree, hoping to give my son a better life. Now, as I pursue my master's degree, the flood has forced us to start over once again.
I'm reaching out for help to afford an apartment for my son and I. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant impact on our journey to recovery. If you can't contribute financially, sharing our story with friends and anyone you know would mean the world to us.
Thank you for your kindness, support, and for being a crucial part of our rebuilding process. ♥️
