My name is Leia Lozada, an 18-year-old Taekwondo athlete with a dream of gold. This year, I have the extraordinary opportunity to represent Canada at the World Championship in Barcelona—a culmination of over a decade of dedication to my martial art.
As a 3rd degree black belt with Slovenian and Puerto Rican heritage, I carry multiple cultural legacies into every competition. The path to this championship represents not just personal achievement, but the intersection of passion, heritage, and national pride.
Despite unwavering commitment and countless hours of training, I face a significant challenge: unlike many sports, martial arts receive no government funding in Canada. This financial reality stands as the final obstacle between me and the championship mat in Barcelona.
Your contribution, regardless of size, will directly support:
• International airfare to Barcelona
• Competition registration fees
• Accommodation during the championship
• Official Team Canada tracksuits
• Competition-grade Taekwondo uniforms and sparring gear
• Final intensive training sessions
Every donation brings me one step closer to representing our country on the world stage. I promise to honour your support by pouring every ounce of determination into my performance, striving for nothing less than gold.
The journey of an athlete is never travelled alone. With your generosity, I can transform years of discipline into an opportunity to make Canada, Slovenia and Puerto Rico proud.
Thank you for being part of my journey.
