World Scout Jamboree - Alex Chattell

Hi, my name is Alex and I am a Debenham Cavalier Explorer Scout. I Joined 1st Debenham Beavers nearly 10 years ago and have been through all the sections. I have really enjoyed my time as a Scout and it has benefitted me in so many ways. I would encourage any young person to give it ago.
When the ultimate Scouting opportunity came my way - The World Scout Jamboree to be held in Gdańsk, Poland in 2027, I knew I wanted to see if I could be selected. The World Scout Jamboree, like the Olympics, only comes around every 4 years. It is only for Scouts aged 14-17, so you only have one shot to attend.
In October 2025, I attended the Suffolk selection day along with another 120 Scouts, all vying to get one of the 36 county places up for grabs. After interviews, skill, teamwork and physical challenges I was very lucky to be awarded one of the places in Suffolk’s Unit 61.
To attend as a participant, you have to raise £3400. Not only does this go towards your travel and attending the jamboree, but it also pays for the training sessions in the lead up to the event, the UK contingent kit and part of the money is used to subsidise Scouts attending from developing countries to be able to make it a truly global Scouting event.
There will be over 40 000 scouts attending from all over the world. I am excited at the chance to make lifelong friendships, learn and experience different cultures. Everyone who has ever attended says what a life changing experience it truly is. Having spend part of my Scouting journey in lockdown; Scouting online, sewing masks and trying to help my community, I feel this Jamboree will allow me to experience Scouting on such a huge scale.
It will also hopefully enable me to put the last piece of the puzzle to my King’s Scout Award – the highest top-tier achievement in British Scouting - something that less than 0.1% of scouts achieve.
I also want to share my experiences with others when I return; I feel this is essential to the legacy of the jamboree and beneficial for those unable to attend. The theme of the jamboree is Bravely - to encourage us to act bravely for all of us and the planet.
I have started fundraising in a variety of ways; Chocolate making, Scrap metal runs, quizzes, and my wages from my part-time job are also going into the pot. I have plans for further fundraising activities, but any donations through this Go fund me page would really help me meet my target.
Thank you -Dziękuję

Please note - all money raised will be used for the purposes of attending the World Scout Jamboree in Poland. Should this event be cancelled, the money will be used towards alternative Scouts events.
