I will be cycling the distance from my house to the campsite in Poland which is 950 miles! I will be aiming to do this over the course of the year on an exercise bike. It would mean a lot if you donated! Currently, I have done around 150 miles and am on my way to the Netherlands!

My name is George Hunter, and I am one of the 36 Cambridgeshire participants who have been selected to be a part of the UK Contingent to the 26th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ), taking place in the summer of 2027 in Gdansk, Poland. Those lucky enough to attend a World Scout Jamboree have a unique opportunity to develop as active global citizens, build international relationships, and experience a variety of cultures.

I will be travelling as part of a unit of 36 young people and 4 leaders from Unit 16 (Instagram @wsj_unit_16_cambs), and we will live, work and travel together, as we explore Poland and attend the Jamboree. During our time at the World Scout Jamboree we, with nearly 4,500 Scouts and Guides from across the UK, will live alongside over 50,000 fellow Scouts and Guides, from nearly every country in the world. This international experience is like no other – it is so much more than just a holiday, as it provides an opportunity for young people like me develop skills for life in planning, independence, fundraising, motivating others, empathy, teamwork, travelling and being active global citizens. Together, we will take part in 10 days of an international camp which will explore the world we live in and how it is changing, and how we can play our part in protecting it. We will try new activities from sports, craft, science and technology, as well as exploring our personal beliefs, and understanding those of our fellow global citizens.

Our first challenge however is to each raise the £3490 fee that we need to pay to attend the 26th WSJ (this covers the event fee, travel, accommodation, food, kit, insurance, and some of the funds we raise go to scouts from less developed countries to allow them to go to and experience this incredible event.).
