Hello, my name is Summer Blackmore. I am a grade 12 student studying at Mount Baker Secondary School in Cranbrook BC, and I'm striving to be a next generation olympic athlete. I was recently selected to represent the BC Elite 7s Team at the World School Championships in Auckland, NZ. This tour is supported by the Provincial and National Union as a targeted tournament to challenge the top 7s athletes in BC. I am very grateful for my selection; however, this is a pay to play tour and the cost is estimated at $3200.
Throughout my life, I constantly participated in as many sports as possible including basketball, soccer, badminton, tennis, track and rugby. I continue to pursue basketball and rugby as a high school athlete and enjoy success in both. Currently, I participate in multiple high level rugby tournaments within BC, but I also enjoyed multiple national, as well as international, rugby trips. Throughout my 5 years of playing rugby, I steadily rose through the ranks and now compete against Junior Canadian athletes involved with the Rugby Canada Development Academy (RCDA).
Ultimately, my goal in the near future is to compete as a Canadian athlete in the 2024 olympics and be a part of the national women's 7s or 15s program. With my high school experience coming to an end, I will be enrolled in university and begin the next level of my rugby and scholastic career. I'm very excited to be taking this step, and I am determined to make it a reality.
