We are reaching out across Australia, the international pickleball community, and especially our kindred North American pickleball brothers and sisters, to please donate to this fund-raising appeal. We need your help !
The registered not-for-profit Noosa Pickleball Club firmly believes the beautiful village of Noosa has the best year-round climate, social infrastructure, friendly vibe and potential to become a pickleball mecca. Several pickleball snowbirds from the USA and Canada have already discovered Noosa and are returning annually.
Australia’s pickleball community needs financial help to build the first world class outdoor pickleball facility in the country. Currently only a handful of painted courts exist at a few tennis clubs or locked away in private retirement resorts. Beautiful pickleball courts attract interest and new players. “Build it, and they will come” has never been truer.
The resort town of Noosa, in the State of Queensland is the ideal location for several reasons which include: (1) Noosa is one of the first locations pickleball was introduced to Australia; (2) Noosa is an ideal holiday destination for Australians and international visitors with beaches, surf, national parks, fine dining and a truly laid back, friendly, welcoming community; (3) the Noosa Pickleball Club is one of the most proactive and well respected pickleball clubs in the country; (4) the land required to build a new pickleball facility is available to use and has the approvals; (5) the local high school is across the street.
The cost of this project from construction-to-play is estimated to be $430,000 which includes court construction, all weather roof, LED lighting, fencing, nets, seating, and two drinking fountains.
Pickleball has seriously grown in Australia since 2017. There are approximately 4000 players spread across the country. Pickleball is played in all of the capitals and many regional cities. Approximately 150 Australian players have completed the International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association (IPTPA) teacher training workshops. Free beginner sessions are now available at most clubs. Pickleball is being enjoyed by all age groups, including some schools.
The Pickleball Association Australia (PAA) and Pickleball Association of Queensland (PAQ) are the national and state bodies to which the Noosa Pickleball Club is an affiliated member.
PAA and PAQ are members of the International Federation of Pickleball (IFP).
The Noosa Pickleball Club has two IFP International Ambassadors.
Australia has the highest skin cancer rate in the world. In order to develop and grow the outdoor game, the courts need to be shaded from the sun to enable play, training and tournaments during daylight hours.
The sport of pickleball will not be eligible for Federal or State funding in Australia until 2023.
