Workshop School: Greens in a Box
Donation protected

by Kairi H.
We are Hajjah Glover, Kairi Hyler, Michael Best, Lauren Monk, Ibrahim Peters, and Addison Hart. We are highschool students attending The Workshop School. The Workshop School is a project based school where students like us are able to work on projects that help change the world. Our current idea is to transform a shipping container into an amazing indoor farm where we can produce enough crops for the community and our school!
The first step we took was research. We analyzed organizations that are doing the same thing including many that are growing crops to sell and others that are supplying restaurants. We're different because we hope to feed our classmates and eventually our community a range of different lettuces and dark greens.
For the last three weeks we’ve been adding to our ideas and now we need help raise funds to first pay for the shipping container. Each of our group members is specializing in a different area, from crop development to hydroponics, from lighting to construction, from external art to managing the finances.
Our main goal right now for this campaign is to purchase a shipping container, and we hope to raise enough money to buy the shipping container as soon as possible. Having received permission from the Walnut Hill Neighborhood Association and our local committee person, we are ready to roll!
Please see this press coverage from the last time faculty and students at our school did this project.
All supporters will have their name featured on our shipping container and will receive three heads of lettuce from our initial harvest. We are not looking for large donors! We want to see if we can get 230 people to donate $10 each.
